Now the family of Bega's Chayse Gannon is dealing with the theft of thousands of dollars worth of jewellery and household items.
Heartless thieves have broken into Chayse' grandmother's Eden home while the family is in Sydney for Chayse's chemotherapy treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
Rachael Bush called the thieves mongrels, among other things, and was worried her gold and jewellery would now be sold or swapped for drugs.
"As if we didn't have enough to deal with here," Ms Bush said.
"You just have to look at Chayse and you forget everything else, but it's hard enough to get up at the moment let alone this adding to it."
Ms Bush said one of her daughters checking on the home said on Friday everything was fine but by Monday thieves had cut through a window screen and broken in.
"They stole all the food in the place, all the alcohol. Then they went through every cupboard and drawer in my bedroom and took all my jewellery."
Chayse's mum Graycen Gannon took to Facebook on Monday night to spread the word and ask for locals to keep an eye out for anyone trying to sell her mum's jewels.
"Asking everyone to help keep an eye out for my mum," she posted to several buy, swap and sell pages.
"Police have just been and all of mum's jewellery has been stolen. Worth a lot of money. Heavy gold, gemstones, diamonds, and silver. I’m sure something will pop up on these for sale sites or even just around town in the Bega Valley of anyone selling any jewellery, please let us know."
Anyone with information is asked to contact their local police station, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, www.crimestoppers.com.au.
