The Bulldogs were held goalless to half-time of Saturday night's match and never looked close to matching the intensity of the fierce-tackling Lions, who prevailed 7.7 (49) to 2.5 (17).

Ally Anderson was superb for the Lions with 20 disposals, Kate McCarthy booted two goals and tall forwards Sabrina Frederick-Traub and the impressive Jesse Wardlaw wreaked havoc with their marking prowess.

Monique Conti (18 touches) worked tirelessly for the Dogs but gun onballer Kirsty Lamb and star forward Katie Brennan struggled to make an impact.

The Lions built their victory on relentless forward pressure, laying 22 tackles in their forward 50 compared to just two for the Bulldogs.

"Most of what we discussed during the week came to fruition tonight," Lions coach Craig Starcevich said.

"They were super. They pressured the opposition into errors, got out into space and carried the ball and used it really well."

Capping off a rough night for the Dogs, co-captain Ellie Blackburn was stretchered off after copping a head knock early in the fourth quarter.

"We'll take all precautions with Elle," Bulldogs coach Paul Groves said.

"She's just headed off to hospital for some scans to make sure that everything's okay. We think she's fine but obviously we'll just go through the protocol."

The result leaves both teams with two wins and two losses but in considerably different positions under the newly-introduced conference system.

Facing tough games against Fremantle (away) and Melbourne to come, the Bulldogs are bottom of Conference A with three home-and-away rounds remaining.

Brisbane have meanwhile climbed to first place in the weaker Conference B, separated only by percentage from second-placed Geelong.

Under the controversial system, the top two teams from the two ladders progress to the finals - meaning the third or even fourth-placed team in A could miss out despite having had a better season than the finalists from B.

Skipper Leah Kaslar was a late withdrawal but it made little difference for a Brisbane side that went ahead in the early minutes when Frederick-Traub's scrambled snap at goal was soccered over the line by Jordan Zanchetta.

Frederick-Traub's radar was off but the Lions had no shortage of options up front.

Jessica Wuetschner's ripping set shot from a tight angle early in the second quarter was quickly topped by Breanna Koenen, whose long kick on the run from 45m out sailed through courtesy of a Frederick-Traub shepherd.
