Musical couple Esther and Rhys Duursma, both teachers, have left behind their classrooms in Wodonga to try life out on the open road. Eden is their first port of call on their East Coast tour.
Throwing caution to the wind, Esther said was part of the grand plan.
”We haven’t booked ourselves up, we are just going to see how it all unfolds. We hope to build momentum as we go.”
Although a little nervous with anticipation, Esther felt confident the journey ahead would bring plenty of opportunities, especially since they are bringing their debut album along for the ride.
The 11-track CD titled "Go Again" was recorded and mixed in the couple’s spare room on Mayfair Drive in Wodonga. The same place where Esther said it all began three years ago, hence the band's name.
“The recording took around 18 months to complete. We had to wait for the opportune moments to record in between the sounds of everyday life.”
Although listeners wont hear any of the domestic neighbourhood sounds such as lawn mowers and kids playing, Esther said the album has "a cool sound all of its own".
“As far as genre goes, you could say indie folk with acoustic guitars and harmonies,” Esther said.
“We both come from different styles. Rhys has a background in blues rock and I am more singer-songwriter acoustic style.
"Together we have our own kind of sound. We do a lot of our own songs.”
Esther said inspiration for original songwriting has come mainly from life’s experiences and questions.
“Our songs are a form of storytelling and we try to create deep and meaningful tunes that people can relate to and be inspired by.”
Mayfair Lane will be guest performers showcasing their original tunes at the Eden Community Market this coming Saturday, February 16.
The market runs from 9am until 1pm at the Uniting Church Garden on Chandos St. For inquiries contact Pam on 0410 225 657 or 6496 2501 or email pskelton@exemail.com.au.
