Eden Community Access Centre manager Carina Severs said she arrived to work on Monday morning surprised to find the sign had been allegedly towed away using a vehicle.
“I am deeply saddened that this has happened. I don’t believe this is a good representation of our community,” Ms Severs said.
“It’s disappointing that somebody felt the need to take away a symbol of Bega Valley’s community spirit.”
The Bega Valley Shire Welcomes Refugees and Asylum Seekers signs were placed across the region in June 2018. In 2002, Bega Valley became the first council in Australia to become a Rural Australians for Refugees-initiated Welcome Town.
Last week, the sign outside the Bega library was replaced after the first one was destroyed by vandals.
