For many tourists, fishing is hot on the to-do list whilst staying in Merimbula as pristine beaches and estuaries are so easily accessible as well as the continental shelf which drops just 25 kilometres off the coast.
FishingBooker has leaked it to the world, the web-based company helps people find and book the best fishing trips worldwide and has placed Merimbula on their top 10 list of best fishing spots in Australia.
The list mentioned the immense variety of fish as a key attraction point of Merimbula, “inshore fishing offers anything from bream, flathead, and tailor to gummy shark and whiting”, the list describes, “all the inshore species are biting pretty much year-round”.
“If you’re up for some bottom fishing, hit the reefs and get your hands on Tasmanian trumpeter, pearl perch, snapper, and morwong.”
The various fishing environments was also mentioned as a winning token, praising Merimbula as the “most scenic”.
“With dazzling sandy beaches on one side, and the gorgeous Merimbula Lake on the other, the ‘heart of the Sapphire Coast’ is a traveling angler’s paradise,” the FishingBooker guide said.
The list was created based on a number of factors such as user reviews, variety of species, and overall experience.
Stuey Hindson of Tackle World Merimbula wasn’t surprised by Merimbula making the top 10 list. He said the guide was “pretty much spot on”.
“It’s not surprising to me, because Merimbula is so diverse – in the morning you could be catching a trout and in the arvo a marlin,” he said.
“We are just so lucky.
“Within one hour of Merimbula’s surrounds you have world class estuaries, it is just so central – what more could you ask for,” he said.
Something Mr Hindson thought the FishingBooker guide forgot to mention is the bass fishing.
“There is also quality bass fishing in the Brogo Dam and surrounding creeks and rivers,” he said.
