Since 4.30pm, the helicopter rescue crew have been roving the coastline of Eden, with residents querying its arrival.
Westpac Life Saver CEO Stephen Leahy said it was part of the search for Craig Evans, 51, who was last seen leaving a worksite on the Princes Hwy, Eden, about 4.15pm on Tuesday, December 11.
Police have been told he is visiting NSW from his home in Eastwood, Victoria.
Officers from the South Coast Police District were notified and began inquiries to locate him.
There are serious concerns for his welfare as his disappearance is out of character.
Mr Evans is described as being of Caucasian appearance, of medium build, about 170cm tall with red hair.
He was last seen wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, black pants, boots and a grey broad brimmed hat.
