A flight school proposed for Frogs Hollow airfield south of Bega has been rejected unanimously by the Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel.

The decision came about 7pm Thursday night, at the end of a three-hour long meeting at the Bega Valley Commemorative Civic Centre.
“The intensity and subsequent impact of that development are not appropriate for that location,” one of the panel members said to applause.
She said the zoning of the land permitted the development, but she said that didn’t necessarily meant it was appropriate.
Noise impact was also raised as a reason for considering the inappropriateness of the development at this location.
The proposal was rejected on several reasons, including that the developer failed to demonstrate it was suitable for the location in terms of intensity and scale, its impact on the surrounding amenity, its capacity to undertake the level of activity proposed, that they had not fully considered the environmental impact of work needed to make the site compliant with CASA requirements, and that the development was not in the public interest
