Firefighters attended a single vehicle crash on the Princes Hwy, Eden on Sunday afternoon, December 8.
NSW Ambulance and Merimbula Police also attended the scene located on the highway near the Eden Waste and Recycling Depot. No other vehicles were involved.
The driver was assessed by paramedics and had suffered extensive bruising.
Eden Fire and Rescue captain Zlatco Nemec said motorists needed to slow down and obey the 40kmh rule when passing emergency vehicles.
“The majority of traffic were slowing down, but there are still many people who are unaware of the ruling,” Mr Nemec said.
The rule which came into effect in September this year, requires motorists to slow down to 40kmh when passing a stationary emergency vehicle displaying blue or red flashing lights.
The rule also requires motorists to give way to any person on foot in the immediate area of the emergency vehicle, which Mr Nemec said is not fully understood by all motorists.
Motorists are then not to increase their speed until they are a safe distance past the emergency vehicle.
