“We’ve had brilliant weather, last weekend was probably the best conditions we’ve had,” club vice-commodore Ted Dexter said.
There are a couple of extra boats in the fleet, while Mr Dexter also said there were a half-dozen new members crewing with some of the race boats each weekend.
Some of the bigger keel boats are forming the mainstay of the Eden fleet with a trio of 34 footers starting to forge a strong rivalry.
However, a highlight has been the strong attendance at free sailing lessons on Tuesday afternoons.
“We’ve had some good attendance at the sailing training sessions,” he said adding the club had welcomed a good age range of young learners with some as young as nine taking part.
The club also welcomed some of the Eden High students who had recently got to try sailing in Sydney (See page 2).
“The wind blew pretty hard the other night and they performed really well, so they’re picking it up remarkably fast.”
Whale sightings are also a bonus for early season sailors with Dexter saying there had been a few pop up recently.
Anyone who wants to learn sailing the club has a number of entry points. You can join the sailing training sessions Tuesday at 4pm, held in dinghy class boats.
However, those looking for something a bit bigger are normally made welcome as crew on some of the Sunday racer boats. Anyone interested in taking up the sport you can contact the club via Facebook, or call Ted Dexter on 0414 550 915.
