Eden players are scattered among a number of the teams including a half dozen players in the Open ladies competition from the premiership winning Tigerettes.
2018 grand final best on ground Alex Spivey has been a gun contributor for the Bega Roosters – who will contest the final with Narooma this weekend.
Meanwhile, arguably the regular competition’s best kicker Kiarna Mitchell has joined with Jacqueline Scott and Tamika Millard to have a run with the Candelo Bemboka ladies.
They’ve been enormous contributors for their adopted clubs and all will get a chance to shine once more in the final round of the contact draw this weekend in Bemboka.
The Narooma Devils are leading the charge into the final of the inaugural contact league fixture, finishing undefeated.
The Devils scored a 38-10 win over Candelo-Bemboka.
Some storming tries got Narooma out front early, but the Panthers didn’t lay down and consolidated with two tries in the match with good input from Kiarna Mitchell and Jacqueline Scott, while Tamika Millard synced up well with fullback Caitlin Johnson.
Second place is the Bega outfit who scored a 12-4 win over Tathra last weekend when play had to be cut short in the second half.
The Roosters had jumped to a quick lead before Bonnie Luff suffered a dislocated knee, ending the clash.
Earlier, play had unfortunately been delayed as a Cooma player was knocked out scoring a try at the death of the Colts’ clash with Narooma.
“You’ve got a duty of care to be careful – and the players’ wellbeing is the utmost importance,” Group 16 chairman Allan Wilton said.
“The officials did an excellent job erring on the side of caution and we’re happy to report both injured players are doing well.”
Earlier, the Bulldogs had posted a double in the 14s, downing Bombala 12-4 and Cooma 16-4.
Bega also posted a win over Bombala 20-4, while Narooma downed the Roosters 16-4.
In the 17s Cooma downed Narooma 26-4 and Bombala downed Bega 12-4.
A finals edition of the Nines format will be held at Bemboka’s Colombo Park this Saturday with most teams in action.
Six games will go ahead with the top four from all three grades to run on.
Wilton encourages anyone who hasn’t yet had a look at the competition to check it out. “Get out and support all these girls, they’ve done a great job and the standard of play is exceptionally high,” he said.
