From Little Things Parklands (FLT) have put in a mass effort converting a bowling green into an urban farm at Club Sapphire Merimbula, committee president David Barrie said there is plenty ready for harvest with lots to do before the markets come to life.
“Produce is really starting to pump out, some things are going to seed because we haven’t got around to picking it,” he said.
The FLT team are looking to recruit as many new members as they can to join their working bees.
“We need a picking team, how it works is that we send a message out to the group when there is a job that needs to be done. Whoever responds first gets the job,” Mr Barrie said.
“We are hoping to get a bigger team so that we can get some things going during the week.”
Mr Barrie is excited to announce FLT’s plans of a fortnightly farmers market to be held in Merimbula. At this stage, Mr Barrie said they are looking for expressions of interest from farmers who would like to sell their fresh produce at the market.
“We are looking for local farmers who would like to bring along their produce or products whether that be jams, pickles or preserves.”
Market stalls will be set up at Poppy’s Arcade – the courtyard of Mormors Cafe.
“The stalls will be made from wooden crates, wicker baskets, hessian and cute wooden produce boxes,” he said.

“We pay for the aesthetic, so you can come down and simply lay your produce for people to buy.”
To get things underway, Mr Barrie is pleased to invite the community to attend a fundraising event at Mormors from 6pm to 9pm on Saturday, November 24.
“There will be a gourmet grazing table showcasing local restaurants, where each will put up a platter,” he said.
“All funds will go towards our proposed farmers markets, if you aren’t able to attend please buy a ticket to donate and help build Merimbula’s own farmers market.”
Purchase tickets at Mormors for $30. For more information and expressions of interest visit www.flt.org.au or their Facebook Page.
