Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said he had started similar trials in Sydney and now wanted to see it running across regional areas.
The services will be trialled in Candelo and Eden, followed by Merimbula and Pambula. The trials will run for two days a week, Tuesday and Thursday, in Candelo and link to existing services. In Eden the service will run five days a week as an on-demand loop, SCB director Jamie Klemm said.
“It will be off the back of existing services which are there anyway and they will be diverted off the existing route to get to aged care homes or individual homes,” Ms Klemm said.
NSW government’s on-demand public transport trials aim to provide a flexible alternative transport service, which allows you to book a vehicle to pick you up from home or a nearby convenient location and take you to local services.
The aim is also to use online, phone apps or the phone to allow passengers to book a time and place that suits them for a pick up.
“I view transport as a technology business,” Mr Constance said adding that services in Merimbula would be more like an Uber bus using smaller vehicles, with wheelchair access.
The trials are due to start in the coming weeks.
It's a trial and we want passengers to get on board with it.
