The best areas for ocean flathead are off Long Point, Tura Headland and south east of Turingal Headland.   

If you are off Kianinny and to the north off Baronda Headland try 15 fathoms out to 20 fathoms.  

Also try off White Rock and the Tathra Hotel.  

Snapper and morwong are available off our local reefs.  

The best areas are between 15 and 20 fathoms off Long Point and White Rock as well as Lennards, North Head and Boyds Tower.  

Good salmon remain on Tura Beach just south of the headland and on North Tura Beach.  

Also, try Haycock Beach and Aslings Beach at Eden.  

The Merimbula Wharf continues to provide good calamari squid with early morning and evening the best times to catch them.  

Try a slow sinking squid jig let down to the weed tops.

Relatively large tailor abundant in the lakes and Bega River are best caught with metal spinners as they delight in destroying soft plastic lures.  

In the estuaries soft plastics are great for trevally, bream and dusky flathead.  

Fishing can be patchy depending on the weather somewhat, but there is certainly a lot more activity now the waters are warming; plus 17 degrees is the norm.  

Unfortunately leatherjackets are competing with the trevally and bream in the Merimbula Lake.

Last weekend club members and guests enjoyed a fun-filled couple of days based at the Wonboyn Lake Resort, running their own Gone Fishing Day events in conjunction with the Mex Williams Memorial Fishing Competition.  

On behalf of Gone Fishing Day the DPI presented the club with a large number of top grade fishing rods, reels lines and lures for both adults and children, all ready to go.  

Congratulations to Alan Wilkins who was this year’s winner of the Mex Williams trophy.  

The target was dusky flathead and the trophy was based on photographed length on a DPI brag mat, with catch and release the main game. 

The club will be open on Friday evening from 6.30pm and visitors are very welcome. 

A club spokesperson invited new members to come and enjoy the fishing report, the ambiance, friendship and lovely views. Darragh Reynolds is the scheduled host.
