The talented students were participants in a grass roots musical program conducted by Grow the Music, sponsored by South East Arts.
Over a four-day workshop the students collaborated to write, record and film an inspirational song “Always Be True”.
The video clip for the song was filmed at Jigamy Farm and students performed live on stage at last weekend’s inaugural Giiyong Festival. The students said performing live to a huge audience was nerve wracking, but found once they shook off the nerves they really enjoyed the experience.
“It was scary at first but we came together and we really got into it,” Susan Kennedy said of the experience.
“It was a fantastic experience – we all worked well together and we made a really good team.” Shakaya Simpson added.

As well as performing in front of a live audience the students were really impressed with meeting Northern Territory hip hop sensation Baker Boy.
“Yeah that was a definite highlight we still can’t believe we got to meet Baker Boy,” said Shakaya.
All of the students agreed they would love the chance to do it all over again .
