More than 50 of Ms Young’s family, friends from the Anglican Church, co-workers, plus representatives from Anglicare and Pambula Rotary came together at the Eden Fishermen’s Club on Saturday, September 15.
Reverend Doctor Ian Coutts and Kaye Pritchard travelled from Canberra to present a certificate and gift to Ms Young at her surprise lunch and Brigitte Kestermann of Pambula Rotary presented a Rotary Vocational Service Award to Ms Young for her many years of service in the community.
Not normally in the limelight, Ms Young said she was humble and surprised by the celebration.
“It was an absolute blur, I had no idea! Everyone did such a good job at keeping it a surprise,” she said.
“The feeling was very humble, although I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of the help and support around me.”
