Hunter’s winning application DAISI Calf Medication Management Solution, is used by local farmers to query Amazon artificial intelligence for the exact amount of medication a particular calf needs. 

The talented student said he is interested in the longer term potential the application, which logs and retrieves data for individual calf, as well as maintains identification records, medication types, and history of dosages, could offer.

“The Festival of the Cloud has really awakened me to the potential of Amazon Alexa and AWS technology to impact one of our most important local industries,” Hunter said following the announcement of his win during the Amazon Web Services Public Sector Summit in Canberra last week.

The six-week intensive cloud skills training program for high school students aged 14 to 16 in the Bega Valley was organised by Bega’s 2pi Software.

“Collaboration with AWS has helped to bring a more experiential cloud learning environment for the students,” 2pi Software director Liam O'Duibhir said.

“The goal of the Bega Festival of the Cloud is to encourage the younger generation to learn AWS quickly, and upskill with real world AWS cloud skills that are critical for today’s workplace.”

During the program, students were also taught team work, collaboration and user interface design, before participating in an Amazon Alexa skills building competition to create voice-enabled solution on Amazon Alexa to solve issues for the local industries. 

“The Bega Festival of Cloud is just the beginning of our effort in developing cloud skills with the youth of Australia,” APAC Regional Head for Education’s Vincent Quah said.

“We are committed to helping the young generation in Australia build their cloud computing knowledge and competencies through the AWS Educate global program, so that they are future-ready to meet fast growing industry demands in cloud skills.”
