Eden Netball was pleased to see more young netballers last week. Hopefully this will only grow so a competition can be run for each of the three age divisions.

A Susan Pettitt Netball Clinic will be held on October 5. In her early days, Pettit played for the Bega Netball Club and was a Sapphire Coast Netball Association (SCNA) representative player. In 1999 while playing for the SCNA U15s side at the State Age games, she was chosen in one of NSW Netball’s talented programs. After a gruelling three days of netball, Pettitt’s team came runners-up and the SCNA U13s won. Pettitt went on to play for NSW and Australia.
The U13s team had six Eden players – Ashliegh Aldridge, Alyce Beattie, Bridget McGuinness, Lisa Kelly, Katie Fletcher and Holli Thomas. Two other Eden girls had been chosen for the team, Lauren Theordore and Summer Isaac. Lauren’s family moved interstate before training began and Summer decided against it. However, both of these girls were in the Eden town team and that team was a force to be reckoned with. C’mon Eden, let’s do it again!
Back to the Netball Clinic, there will be two squads on the day;
9-10.30am, 5-10-year-olds, $45 per child.
10.30am – 12.30pm, 11+ $50 per child.
If you are interested, get your names in early as there will only be 20 girls per squad.
The women’s competition has grown to 10 teams, therefore there will be three time slots for the next two weeks. After the school holiday break and daylight saving kicks in, there will be three games at 6pm and two at 7pm.
Last week’s games were close encounters. Results were:
Pambula 21 defeated Sweaty Bettys 14. Best on court were Tamara Cocks, Renee Dunne, Shelley McCartney and Elissa McCabe.
Tigers 27 defeated Pharmacy Girls 24. Best on court were, Em Lucas, Chelsie Cassie and Karen Longford.
Bush Turkeys 20 defeated Twofold Two 16. Best on court, Ashliegh Aldridge and Suzette Campbell.
Twofold One 19 defeated It’s Too Hard 15. Best on court, Zenda Manton, Alison Simpson and Danika Bird.
Just a reminder for the scorers to mark the goals for each quarter in each separate box. There are four sections on the score sheets for this. It is also the scorer’s duty to make sure that each player on the court is listed on the score sheet.
Eden Netball is in desperate need of more umpires. Normally, the duty team is to provide two umpires per game. It was suggested that a $2 per player charge be initiated to pay for umpires.
This week’s games are as follows:
5pm – Twofold One v Sweaty Bettys.
6pm – It’s Too Hard v Pambula
6pm – Tigers vs Whalers
Duty team Pharmacy.
7pm – Pharmacy v Bush Turkeys
7pm – Pink Panthers v Twofold Two
Duty team Whalers.
