The Red Falcons Rugby Union girls, made up of players from the Far South Coast Falcons Rugby Union and the Cooma Red Devils, took it to the city on the weekend and brought home some silverware in the ACT and SNSW Girls Rugby 10s Grand Final.

Playing against Radford was an unknown for the under 16s Red Falcons, having to forfeit against them earlier in the season.
Officials for the club said going into the game “Rumour had it that they were slick, very fast and great tacklers”.
The Red Falcons came out hard and fast scoring the opening two tries – and converting both.
However, the Radford club fought back to a lead and it was coming down to the wire.
Officials said there was about five minutes left on the clock and Radford in the lead when the Red Falcons found the tryline neatly under the posts.
It was Jindabyne’s Kayla Crocker neatly slotting the conversion that gave the local contingent the edge, recording a win 38-36.
Bega player Brianna Davis-Lonesborough was named player of the match in a great display.
In the other game, the under 14s Red Falcons were crowned as runners-up after going down in a good battle with the Tuggeranong Vikings.
Officials said it was a fast-paced game and was always going to be a challenge taking on the Vikings on their home turf.
However, it was the flat-out pace of the Vikings that surprised the Far South Coasters.
“The Falcons were a little shaken by the speed they faced,” a spokeswoman said.
“However, the 45-19 score does not reflect the amount of possession the Falcons secured during the game and the great rugby that was played.”
The spokeswoman said the Falcons had been outstanding, but just couldn’t finish a few opportunities, while the speedy Vikings were able to capitalise on any gaps they could create.
“Nobody in the crowd was quite prepared for the skillful games of rugby union they witnessed,” she said.
“The girls’ ability and love for the game, as well as their terrific sportsmanship was certainly a surprise for the Canberra crowds.”
With no formal men’s competition outside of masters, the Falcons are leading the way for rugby union on the Far South Coast.
Since their inception just two seasons ago, the club has already claimed two flags in a standout showing of skill and determination against some highly fancied opposition.
The Falcons will now head into the Rugby 7s season and are encouraging any interested girls to have a go.
