TAFE NSW students, teachers and industry partnerships claimed nine of the 14 awards on offer at the Training Services NSW event.
Unfortunately Thomas will not progress on to the Australian Training Awards which will be held in Sydney this November although said he valued his experience throughout the selection process.
“It’s such an honour to have been selected and I would like to thank everyone involved in the awards process,” Thomas said.
“I’ve learned many great skills related to the engineering and fabrication industry that I otherwise wouldn’t have got until after leaving school.
“This has given me a real head start. It’s been an invaluable opportunity and without it I wouldn’t be on the career path I’m on today.
TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Kerry Penton congratulated Thomas.
“I have no doubt Thomas, and the many other finalists from TAFE NSW, will go on to be ambassadors for TAFE NSW and forge highly successful careers,” she said.
Thomas currently holds the title as school based apprentice of the year for the Illawarra and South East region and is set to complete his HSC at Eden Marine High this year.
