“Tathra are a good side and we’re not going to take them lightly.” Crowe said on Wednesday.
When they take on the Eaglettes at Narooma’s Bill Smyth Oval this weekend, the Whalers will be in the chase for their third consecutive women’s flag.
But uniquely, a win on Saturday would also see a trifecta of major sporting code premierships handed over to Eden women’s rosters.
The Eden Tigerettes have already won the league-tag crown, while the Killer Whales ladies wrapped up the football (soccer) premiership on Sunday.
“That is no small thing,” adds Killer Whale Deb Heron of the potential honours for the town.
Crowe certainly has plenty of faith in his team with a great atmosphere at the club building from a surprise loss earlier this season.
“We really came together after getting a bit of a touch up from Narooma, it was a loss we needed,” he said.
“That was a crystallizing moment, but the girls have gelled so well and we’ve been playing pretty good footy.”
Keeping a core group of players from their past two premierships, the Whalers have also added some astounding young talents through the mid season.
“We picked up probably three or four halfway through the year and they’ve fit in perfectly,” Crowe said.
“A couple of them had played before and a couple hadn’t, but they’ve picked up incredibly quickly.”
The Whalers will have key defensive structure in place on Saturday with Crowe saying his back six had been stellar all season, while the on-ballers were also extremely handy at pulling back to help when needed.
“They’ve been the best back line all year and our on-ballers are fantastic,” he said.
There is a quiet confidence around the club, they’ve won before and they can do it again.
“I’ve just been drilling into them this week we only have to play with the right headspace and go into the game our way,” he said.
“Stick to our processes and focus on what we do well.
“But the mood is really strong, they are playing great footy and pretty confident for the weekend.”
Crowe said it was a long drive to Narooma, but encouraged supporters to make it if they could, adding “you will not be disappointed by the quality of football”.
The club will be running a bus to the ground, but seats are limited.
To book a ride, you can register on the club’s Eden Whalers Facebook page, or you can call Shane Crowe directly on 0418 287 891.
The women’s game will run from 1.10pm on Saturday at Narooma’s Bill Smyth Memorial Oval with seniors at 2.30pm.
