On June 15, students from Eden Marine High School’s Year 10 marine studies class were shown around the Bhagwan Dryden, a 57.8-metre vessel that had pulled in to the Port of Eden as a stopover for their endeavours on the oil and gas rigs in the Bass Strait.

Bhagwan Marine is a company based in Perth, Western Australia. They specialise in underwater filming and dive work. The dive work they do is generally done on oil and gas rigs as well as sub-sea assets.
Bhagwan Dryden is a dive support vessel with all the gizmos to allow divers to depths of 50 metres to clean sub-sea assets. It is also has the capabilities to send down an ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) to a depth of about 2km.
The ROV has two manipulating arms, one with five functions and the other with seven. This allows the vehicle to dive down deeper than human divers and do the same job.
After a tour of the vessel we were treated to an awesome feed of party pies, while the crew talked to us about how they got to where they are now. They also talked to us about the qualifications that are needed to become a captain or head engineer on a sea vessel.
At the end we were offered an ice-cream and then posed for a couple of photos on the bow of the ship. It was an excellent excursion and just another great aspect of marine studies at Eden High.
