“We want to celebrate everyone who has been part of that 70 years of history, particularly the locals, but also generate interest the get the Tigers up and running again for next season,” John Miller, one of the organisers of the special reunion weekend, said.
The Tigers will focus their reflection on three separate squads from three separate decades spanning 40 years of the Eden club with former players and coaches to feature during a special reunion dinner.
Guest speakers will include Peter Kelly a renowned Eden league export, but also coaches from the 2008 trifecta winning team, the Clayton Cup-winning 97 squad and the 1978 premiership winners.
Mr Miller said the speakers will tell some tales from the decade, but also share their insights into the club and the state of Group 16 across the three decades.
Interest has already been impressive and Mr Miller said it was down to the club spirit of the Tigers.
“They love coming back to Eden, we’ve been very lucky in that regard,” he said.
However, Mr Miller is eager to see a good local presence as the local community if the lifeblood of the club.
“Everyone is invited, from players to sponsors and fans, we want to involve all the Eden people who have been key in making the history this club has; it’s all about the people living here who have helped support or build the Tigers,” Mr Miller said.
“We are keen to celebrate our past, but also showcase everything that can build the club’s future.”
The dinner will be held at the Great Southern Inn from 6.30pm on Saturday with a casual atmosphere and no set menu.
Celebrations begin on June 8 with a meet and greet catch up at the Great Southern Inn from 6pm.
There you’ll be able to reminisce, but also put down interest for both the Saturday night reunion dinner as well as a mixed golf and bowls day at the country club on Sunday.
“If you want to join us for the golf or bowls, please come and see us on Friday, but if you can’t make it and still want to play, call the pro-shop to get your name down,” Mr Miller said.
Golf will go ahead at 8am on the Sunday, while Tigers great Sheldon Wykes will host on the bowling greens from about 10am.
The club will then host a barbecue lunch for everyone on the day about 1pm at the Eden Gardens Country Club.
