Dubbed the most successful club in Group 16 with 19 first grade premierships, the Eden Tigers were devastated to not field a first grade side in the 2018 season – the only time in 73 years.
Tigers great John Miller and a dedicated team of Tigers are working behind the scenes to coordinate the weekend of celebrations.
“We want to give recognition to our immense club history and also pay tribute to these guys,” Mr Miller said.
The club will pay homage to three teams in particular across the weekend, including the 1978 premiership (40-year anniversary) the 1997 Clayton Cup winning premiership side (21 years) and the three-time premiership winners from 2008.
The trio of outfits will be highlighted, but the club wants to honour all the amazing teams from across the history.
“We’ve had 19 premierships over the years and we want this opportunity to celebrate all the names who have made the Tigers a great club,” Mr Miller said.
“We’ve had so many successful players and coaches it has been difficult to pin down a few to highlight.” he said.
Early plans are to host a meet and greet on the Friday at the Great Southern Inn, where all current and previous players, sponsors and supporters are invited to join in celebrating 73 years of the Mighty Tigers.
“Then Saturday we’ll be meeting up again for a dinner and speeches from a number of our incredible former coaches who will be there on the night,” Mr Miller said.
“Then Sunday we’re heading to the Gardens Country Club – who were the major sponsors of our undefeated ‘97 outfit – for a golf and bowls day with a barbecue afterwards.
The functions will go ahead on June 9-11.
“This function is for everyone from our grades and juniors who have played over the years, but our sponsors and supporters too.
“You’ve all been part of our tremendous club and we want to include you.”
Mr Miller said he was keen to see the Tigers rebuild in 2019 and the function was a way to pay tribute to the club’s past, but also build excitement for the future.
