The sailors were pleased to get on the water, after racing was cancelled last week due to strong winds.

Officers of the Day, Darren Lydiard and Brian Wright, set a smaller than usual course to compensate for the light winds. This was successful, as most of the boats finished together at the end.

Jeff Hope again demonstrated his ability to keep the big Tropic trailer-sailor, moving in light winds, winning race one. Second and third were the Sabres of Sian Morton and Brent Occleshaw.

Race two saw a Sabre trifecta, won by Sian Morton ahead of Neil Fisher and Brent Occleshaw.

The story of the day was the debut of Luca Dorrough’s new scow Moth, a classic from 1984 that his father and grandfather have helped acquire and restore. The fast, light-weight Moth promises fast competitive sailing, and is the perfect boat for Luca to make the transition from crew to skipper.

The club also received exciting news about successful grant applications to fund a new rescue boat. The current 15-foot fibreglass boat will be for sale in the near-future, for anyone looking for a family fishing boat.

The final season results, for Pointscore and Handicap Series, plus the Sprint Series and special prizes, will be announced on Presentation Day, at the club on May 5 from noon.

Next week two ‘fun races’ will be held, the last formal races of the season. 

Following the weekend, regular racing will return in late September/October when the warm weather returns.
