The branch hosted a morning tea on Friday, April 13 which provided an opportunity to invite interested women to join.
“We lose members every year,” CWA member Lela Kolega said. “We really need new members.”
Ms Kolega said the organisation and its contributions to the community are often misunderstood.
“We are more than just cooking,” she said. “We help the community as much as we can. We donate to the local high school, help families in the Eden area and also contribute to Towamba Public School.”
More than just cookery and handicrafts, the CWA has also proven to be an influential lobby group.
“We were responsible for introducing seat belts in cars,” Ms Kolega said.
The association that was founded in New South Wales in 1922, has also provided country women with friendship and opportunities to forge productive connections with their community.
“It is a great opportunity to get out of the house and meet people,” Ms Kolega said. “ We are also part of a network of other community groups in the area.”
The membership in the organisation also provides opportunities to acquire new knowledge and develop different interests, Ms Kolega said.
The CWA is also interested in fostering women’s unique interests by providing a space for them to grow and develop.
“Whatever your hobbies are we can work with them and enlarge and support them,” branch president Sharyn Nammensma said.
Ms Nammensa said that the branch is seeking new members who can help to progress the organisation and support its efforts in the community.
“We want new members who can bring new ideas and actively engage in the community and the committee,” she said.
Those interested in joining the Eden branch can come along to the monthly meeting held on the second Friday of each month at 10:30 am at the CWA rooms or email Ms Nammensa and Anne Hamdorf on johnnam1@bigpond.com
