Ms Stewart is no stranger to Eden and the surrounding district.
She is a PhD candidate at the University of Wollongong’s Bega campus and has been undertaking research on the Bundian Way project.
She has a Bachelor of Arts (honours) from the University of Wollongong and is currently completing her doctoral thesis.
In 2017, Ms Stewart was awarded the Deen De Bortoli award for Applied History through the New South Wales History Council.
She has also been an academic tutor at UOW’s Bega campus for the last four years and is the co-founder of local collective mNemosyne: South Coast women’s journal.
As a tutor Ms Stewart has taught a range of subjects including Australia cultural history, Modern European History, War and Society, and Cultural Studies.
She has an interest in 19th Century Australian history and in particular Aboriginal and settler histories.
Ms Stewart enjoys public speaking and has presented guest lectures at the University of Canberra and delivered papers at several academic conferences. She has also chaired two local panel discussions.
She has spent several years researching in Eden and looks forward to building a continuing relationship with the area and its residents.
“I have a deep and abiding love for the Far South Coast and feel privileged to be working with a vibrant and diverse community,” she said.
“I also love stories – as a historian and now a journalist, I love listening and helping to communicate people’s stories.
“Stories help to build and strengthen communities, and a town’s storytellers are often the backbone of those communities. I look forward to meeting and reacquainting myself with Eden’s storytellers.”
