There is only one solution.  The responsible Ministers must quickly intervene to have this current unworkable Crown Lands EOI-REF process withdrawn.  They must then order the appointment of an independent marine construction expert for re-design of the Snug Cove wave attenuator to efficiently provide both safe harbour for recreational vessels as well as the pre-conditions for an economically viable marina in Snug Cove.

But, how come?

Their wave attenuator won’t attenuate the most dangerous waves, because it faces the wrong way. Der!

Their wave attenuator joins up to the fishing jetty, meaning tugs and trawlers can’t get in or out.

But wait! – tugs and trawlers can get out through a 30m channel in water that was part of the viable marina design. Brilliant!

Oops! But that channel cuts down the space for an economically viable marina by more than one-third (meaning it would never be built).

If this wasn’t so serious for Eden’s economic future, it would be laughable.

Eden community, Eden Chamber, Bega Shire and Macquarie Street need to get real about job-promoting, tourism-attracting  infrastructure like this 175-berth Snug Cove marina. Every marina south from Sydney has a waiting list, Batemans Bay is building its second one, Bermagui’s marina is a great success, including actual marina berths built by the NSW Government.

Eden has one of the best and most strategically placed deepwater harbours in the southern hemisphere. It is a total no brainer.

Official NSW government forecasts show Bega Shire population will grow by an anaemic 0.57 per cent a year to 2036, compared with NSW overall growing more than double that at 1.3 per cent.

We need a positive growth strategy instead of trickling along with a paltry 250 more people every year for the whole shire. 

A well-designed attenuator providing for an economically viable marina in Snug Cove and attracting job-creating private investment would be a good start.

This is the first letter I have ever written to a member of parliament, but I am so incensed by the flagrant waste of money for the rebuilding of the two sports stadiums in Sydney that I am forced to voice my horror at this proposal! 

The region you represent, like so many more in this state, is so, so in need of funds in so many areas, that the spending of this proposed $3billion should make it impossible for you, as our elected representative, to sleep at night. 

Our health services are in a shambles, our hospital, although a wonderful new structure, is inadequately staffed and services are just not readily available, especially in the fields of mental health. 

This area has a sickeningly high  suicide rate, way above the state average and even though we are luckily getting a Headspace service next year, much money needs to be spent on this, and looking at all ways of health preventative measures to improve outcomes, especially for young people in this region.

It behooves those who are elected to do the best for their people and by supporting this shameful waste of our money you are definitely not doing your best for us. 

Spend these funds on local sports and facilities, and health services for everyone.

This is only one region in need and your Coallition colleagues should be looking after their constituents in the same way.

To say there will be electoral consequences for this shameful waste of taxpayers money is indeed stating the obvious, but maybe that has to be done!
