Fine, sunny conditions followed by a little rain failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the 37 local shooters and visitors who turned up.
Novelty events were the order of the day as is usual for the Christmas shoot. Ham and chicken prizes provided a major incentive for all to shoot well.
Things began with a 25 target, gun down and delayed release event which saw some very interesting efforts. Charlie Smith did well in AA grade, winning with a score of 23/25.
Craig Field started the day well with a win in A grade on 21/25. Bert Deacon was best in B grade with a score of 24/30 after a shootoff. George Adamopolous collected 20 of his 25 targets to take the C Grade prize.
Event two was a mixed bag of 25 targets;10 single barrel off 13 metres, 10 double barrel off 17 and five point score off 21.
In C grade, George Adammopolous took the main prize with a score of 31/35, and B Grade saw Bert deacon again claim the first prize.
Craig Field and Tony Gray enjoyed a shoot off to decide A Grade with Craig finishing on 40/50 to Tony’s 37/50. AA Grade was a repeat of the first event with Charlie Smith winning on 34/35.
The third event was a 25T double-barrel stand and sit. On lanes one, three and five the shooter stood to shoot and on two and four they sat on a chair.
In C grade, Christel Feldmann missed the first target and then proceeded to smash the rest to take victory.
Bert Deacon made it three for three with a win in B Grade, and A Grade saw Craig Field once again in the winner’s circle after a shoot off against Shane Platts.
In AA Grade, Charlie Smith shot a perfect 55/55 to take victory.
The final event for the day was the Invitational High Gun. This event included all the high gun winners from throughout the year.
Chris Davis, Alf Niesar, James Body, Charlie Smith and Phil Body were the five shooters that lined up for the decider.
Charlie shot another perfect round (20/20) to claim the coveted sash for 2017.
The three draws for the shoot raffle saw Chris Brown graciously miss a target and save the treasurer stress. He was followed by Garry Martin who took home a well deserved $179 for Christmas. Chris finished with two meat trays as a consolation.
Presentations followed with Club Champion going to Alf Niesar, a most worthy winner. Most improved shooter for 2017 went to John Gray who set himself the task of going from B grade to A and did so in style.
President Phil thanked all participants and members for their support and effort in making the club run smoothly. A special mention to the Office – Pauline and Tracy – without their efforts, no shoot would run effectively.
