For the junior side, it was the first time they’d reached a soccer grand final in five seasons – and they did it in dominating style.
The youngsters lost only two games all season – both to a strong Bega side. But they turned the tables in their third encounter late in the season.
“Even when they faced each other for a third game they gave them a 3-0 head start,” club president Adam Donaldson said.
“But they were able to fight back and win comprehensively 5-3.”
The Eden under 14s also had to play catchup in Sunday’s final against Merimbula White, forcing extra time with an equaliser only minutes from full time.
The final score was 3-2 in thei Killer Whales’ favour.
“It was a real roller coaster for their dear old parents on the sideline,” Donaldson said.
“A lot of these kids have been playing since under 7s. There’s only a handful that haven’t played a lot of years.
“We haven’t always had a strong team. They’ve known their share of defeat and copped some floggings over the years.
“But they have stuck with it, and even handed out a few of their own this year!
“It’s been a long time between celebrations, but it was a triumphant day for them.”
Meanwhile, the Killer Whale ladies also had a joyful day, defeating Pambula 5-0 in their grand final match-up.
