Students and staff were treated to two performances as they avoided the state capital’s traffic woes by traversing on foot.

The excursion started with the obligatory city public transport experience, an invaluable struggle for any country student.

A rushed dinner and a train ride to Circular Quay for a few harbour-side photos preceded the evening’s highlight – Sydney Theatre Company’s production of George Orwell’s 1984.

The performance enthralled students as they too were placed inside ‘Big Brother’s’ cameras to watch protagonist Winston fail to stand up to ‘The Party’.

The Eden contingent agreed that the highly political and timely production was truly amazing, especially when viewing from the front few rows.

The second day involved a visit to the Belvoir Theatre, which subsidised the excursion as part of their Country Area Program.

The production ensured a hilarious action-packed restoration comedy, The Rover.

The show proved that theatre is unpredictable when a performer broke her wrist and the actors had to engage in a Q and A with the audience to explain the ending.  An unforgettable experience indeed.

The Belvoir Theatre education team also shared invaluable resources to the school’s HSC module - Black Comedy.

A quick visit to Madame Tussauds for some selfies and a few hours shopping concluded an exhausting second day.

The travelling party thanked Miss Collins and Mr Arlidge for organising the excursion and Belvoir Theatre for their ongoing commitment to EMHS.
