Cr Allen’s motion seeks to reverse the findings against councillor Robyn Bain, of being in breach of the code of conduct and he is citing a letter to the editor published in both the Eden Magnet and the Merimbula News Weekly as the reason.
Cr Allen’s rescission motion reads:
“In light of the Letter to the Editor in the Magnet Thursday 20 July 2017 written by Mr Bob Carter spokesperson for Eden Marina at Cattle Bay, the Resolution made at 22.1 Code of Conduct Matter of 17 May Ordinary Council meeting against Cr Robyn Bain be rescinded.”
Cr Allen said he preferred not to comment on the matter when asked on Thursday, August 10 after the council agenda had been published.
However at the council meeting on Wednesday, August 9 when the code of conduct matter was being debated prior to going into closed session, Cr Allen said it was the “fault of this council that we’re discussing this again”.
“There are major issues with the report. People need to hear this, there’s no sense of justice. These two people (Cr Bain and Cr Fitzpatrick) are completely innocent. It’s not fair,” Cr Allen said.
“It’s horrendous. This has gone on and on. They have been ostracised because one person wanted to throw dirt,” he added.
Although Cr Allen is not expected to have the numbers for a rescission motion, it will afford a further opportunity for debate and judging by last Wednesday’s discussion prior to closed session, it could prove very fiery.
