Wild support for Legacy
Bega Valley Legacy was taken slightly aback when a donation was received last week from Wild Rye’s Baking Company in Pambula. The bakery’s principal, Todd Wiebe, opened his bakery on Anzac Day this year before and after the service in Pambula.
They split the takings received between Bega Valley Legacy and Merimbula-Pambula Support Services. Both groups received $462.50, a most generous contribution.

The next lunch meeting of Merimbula Day VIEW Club will be held at Merimbula RSL on Friday July 14. Lunch is served at noon and those attending are asked to be at the club as close to 11.30am as possible to place their orders.

Lions changeover
Pambula Merimbula Lions held their 52nd changeover on Saturday, July 8 at Club Sapphire and were joined by Mayor Kristy McBain, who spoke on the value of volunteers in the Bega Valley.
Outgoing president Robyn Bedford mentioned many events in which Lions had been involved during the year including the barbecue breakfast for 200 motorcyclists participating in the Wall to Wall Ride, lights for Christmas and the Jazz Festival, involvement with the Chamber of Commerce focus groups, involvement in local schools, the Peace Poster Contest, Youth of the Year Program, representation on the CCASE Committee and the Merimbula Gift.
“We reached out to other groups with our support of the project to give dementia sufferers in nursing homes their own iPod with music especially programmed for their musical tastes and to the young man we helped on his journey to athletics competitions in Canada and another on his journey to getting enough driving skills and hours to obtain his licence. We sent three young people on the District Youth Camp and two to an Outward Bound Navigator course.”
Also announced this year was the donation by Lions of $250,000 towards the construction of family and carers' accommodation for the new South East Regional Hospital, Bega.
Ms Bedford said it had been a pleasure to be president for 2016/17 and wished Tony Criddle good luck as he embarked on another rotation as president.
