Featuring players and coaching staff from Group 16, the side outmatched highly fancied opponents to meet Newcastle in the final recently. Monaro stole the show from the highly fancied team to secure an 18-14 victory over the Newcastle Rebels.
Group 16 officials said Monaro performed strongly against the Western Rams and Riverina areas, but were tipped to fumble in the face of the strong Illawarra contingent, but the team downed the combine with a great display from Bombala Blue Heelers player Luke Ingram to help earn a spot a grand final spot against the Newcastle Rebels.
Played as St John Oval, the Rebels took the lead early before Monaro fought back to take the advantage 12-6 at the break.
Officials said the southerners then extended their lead early in the second half and holding out the Rebels for the win. Ten players from the side have been selected as part of the Country side.
