Big gusts to continue through Saturday

Friday’s wild weather isn’t expected to be short-lived, with a storm force wind warning for the Eden coast to be downgraded slightly to a gale warning on Saturday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast winds of up to 50 knots for Friday, with seas getting as high as six metres, and a southerly swell getting up to five metres in the afternoon.

Isolated thunderstorms are predicted, and large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing on both Friday and Saturday.

Winds will die down marginally on Saturday, with southerlies not expected to be above 40 knots, seas of up to four metres and a swells around five metres.

No warnings are in place for Sunday as yet, with partly cloudy conditions forecast.
