More than 300 NSW SES volunteers responded to over 800 calls for assistance across the state, with areas further up the South Coast reporting extreme winds.
Gusts of 105km/h were reported at 5pm on Tuesday at Kiama, while Nowra was hit by 91km/h winds at 6.15pm.
Up to 600 residents in the southern Shoalhaven area were without power on Tuesday afternoon, with the wild conditions bringing down trees and power lines, lifting trampolines onto roofs and trees, and causing large amounts of roof damage in the area.
EDEN SES unit controller Peta Ford says the town was lucky to avoid such conditions.
“Eden actually had no call outs at all surprisingly, considering the weather conditions over the last couple of days,” she said.
“I know Bega had one call out, but apart from that, nothing happened locally.”
A severe weather warning for damaging winds was still in place for the South Coast district when the Magnet went to print on Wednesday.
