The quilt, won by Eden resident Pat Bell, raised approximately $750, and was completed as a memorial to one of the group’s founders and former Nullica Lodge board member Jenny Kuhnell, who had begun work on it when she died in July 2012.
Among those who helped piece together the quilt was Jenny’s friend of more than 20 years, Lorraine Cromby, who has also since died.
“It was important to leave a legacy for Jenny because she was my best friend, and Lorraine was as well,” Elaine Craker, a member of the quilting group, said.
“Lorraine pieced all the back together with the scraps we had left over.
“It’s got a lot of sentimental value to me.”
The quilters presented the finished article to the Friends of Nullica community group in September 2013, with the two groups resolving to use it to raise funds for the facility that Jenny had devoted much of her life to.
“We have been selling raffle tickets up the street and amongst friends since then,” Enid Whiter, a member of the Friends of Nullica, said.
“It’s lovely that someone in the town has won it, and I’m sure she will be delighted to have it.”
The underside of the quilt contains a tribute message for Jenny, which reads ‘Jenny. Pieced by Jenny Kuhnell, finished by the Eden Log Cabin Quilters. Jenny was a foundation member of the group and a past Board member of Nullica Lodge’.
