The 2013 event marks the 40th year since the first Bega Valley Rally was held.
The 40th Jubilee Bega Valley Rally is scheduled to be held on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
The event is a round of both the NSW and Victorian State Rally Championships, and the ACT Regional series.
This year’s rally will incorporate again the Sapphire Coast Classic for “classic-style” two-wheel drive cars, something that has proved popular in past year.
The Bega Valley Rally in 2013 will be a national, non-paced note special stage rally, conducted in the forests to the surrounding Eden.
Last year’s Bega Valley Rally proved a success, despite poor weather in the lead-up.
The event attracted 70 entrants, which organiser Tom Snooks said was “extremely pleasing” (BDN, 15/6/12).
Overall winners were Stephen and Glen Ramond in their Toyota Corolla, beating runners-up Michael South and Julie Boorman in their Subaru WRX Impreza.
The course for the 2013 rally has now been set.
It totals 325 kilometres with 185km competitive over 11 special stages, with lengths varying between 9km to 30km.
None of the stages are repeated or run in reverse.
A commemorative dinner will be held on June 8 before the rally gets underway on June 9.
It will culminate with the awards presentation at the Eden Fisherman’s Club that night.
Over the years, the Bega Valley Rally became one of the most well-known events in Australia.
Since 2009 it has been based at Eden, opening up the large forests area to the south and west of this town, and extending into the Far East Gippsland region of Victoria.
A history of the rally can be found at the Bega Valley Rally website, wwww.begavalleyrally.com.au.
