The future of the Cattle Bay Marina project is unclear with Bega Valley Shire Council stating the development consent has expired and the company putting the land for sale by worldwide real estate and property sales organisation Knight Frank.

Listed as an “exceptional mixed use waterfront development site” the online information mentions the site’s potential for an international hotel, residential housing and a marina and goes on to describe Eden as a “burgeoning tourism, residential and retirement area” which has “huge government commitment to fund the upgrade of Eden Wharf so that mega cruise ships can make Eden a regular stopover”.
Knight Frank real estate agent Richard Garland said the property had been with the company for a couple of months.
“But we haven’t marketed it yet. It’s been distributed through our Asian markets though,” Mr Garland said adding that there had been some interest.
“This is an expression of interest campaign, no price has put on the property at this stage. We’re waiting for everything to be bedded down,” he said referring to the DA for the marina.
Cattle Bay Marina and Bega Valley Shire Council were listed for a Land and Environment Court hearing on Monday, July 16 and again on Monday, July 23, both of which were subsequently cancelled. A council spokesman said the consent for the development was originally issued by the Southern Joint Regional Planning Panel (JRPP) on a deferred commencement basis.
“It was council’s opinion that the deferred commencement condition was not met within the prescribed 30-month timeframe from the date of consent. The applicant was advised via a letter dated June 1, 2018.
“The applicant subsequently lodged an appeal to the Land and Environment Court, however they have formally discontinued this action. The result is there is no pending legal action on this matter,” the council spokesman said.
Asked for clarification, the spokesman stated: “Council’s position is that consent expired on June 1, 2018.”
It is believed that the DA had a condition to remediate a section of the foreshore within a specified timeframe which was not met.
The Magnet asked Cattle Bay Marina for a comment but due to time constraints the company was not able to prepare a response by the Magnet’s deadline.
In the meantime Chris Wilson Real Estate, Eden has a 6650sqm portion of the land for sale at $1.2 million stating that it has current concept approval for eight, three-bedroom townhouses.
The Cattle Bay Marina DA was approved by the JRPP in late 2015 after the land was purchased about 17 years ago.
