Jumping for joy

Fairfax journalist Sean Cunningham had the good fortune to be holidaying on the Far South Coast last week but his luck didn’t stop there. He took a cruise on the Cat Balou and struck gold with one of the best whale watching displays seen by local whale watchers in over 20 years.

“We saw about seven or eight pods of whales, which featured about 30 or 40 jumps about 20-30 metres from the boat.

“There were that many I lost count - it was fantastic,” Sean said this week.

“Some whale watching cruises are SO special and CAT BALOU had one of those days today. We had a morning of breaching whales!

“There were too many breaches from a pod of two adults to count and in between they pec slapped and fluked up. While all this action was happening we were surrounded by hundreds of Common Dolphins who stayed with us for most of the morning.”

Thanks for sharing with us Sean!
