A brilliant fundraising effort by the Eden Service and Social Club Inc, Eden Lioness Club and Eden Chamber of Commerce has ensured the town’s New Year’s Eve fireworks display will go ahead this year.

The funding drive started in July after it came to light that Bega Valley Shire Council would not fund the display and instead direct funds to the Sapphire Coast New Year’s Eve Spectacular in Merimbula.
ESSCI president Graham Gray was ecstatic with the fundraising effort, praising the community for its generosity in wake of the funding grant shortfall.
“When I started going around to businesses they were agreeing to help out straight away,” he said.
Eden newsagent Lynn Slater said about $500 was raised through a donations box set up in the store, which included the odd $50 note.
“It’s typical Eden. When the town’s in need the people dig deep. Eden always digs deep,” Ms Slater said.
Substantial pledges were made by the Gateway Caravan Park, Garden of Eden Caravan Park, Eden Auto Group, Nolan Automotive Parts & Industrial Supplies, Fraser Marine Eden and the Eden Killer Whale Museum.
J Michelin & Son has also made its security fencing available to ensure the fireworks are kept safe and secure.
The 20-minute fireworks event will be held at 9.30pm at the Eden Football Ground opposite Aslings Beach.
