Four local historians will also be recalling some of their own favourite stories about the area’s past at the Library launch of ‘Recollections’.

Garry Moorhead, the Vice-President of the Merimbula-Imlay Historical Society, is promising to talk about the area’s fascinating maritime history.

Robert Whiter, who recently launched his book ‘When the Chips are Down’, will be wondering whether a load of railway sleepers from the South Coast that were sent to Germany just before World War I ‘saw active service,’ perhaps assisting the German War effort to the detriment of Australians fighting on the Western Front.

Kate Clery, an expert on the history of the Towamba Valley and surrounding areas, will be sharing some insights from pioneer women that were gained when she interviewed them for one of her books.

And Angela George, a local heritage expert, will be talking about some of the local area’s most interesting heritage items.

‘Recollections’ is a free community-oriented magazine that is compiled and issued every second month. The free magazine will be available from all Bega Valley Shire and Eurobodalla Shire libraries from September 29.
