After a 3-1 win over the Pambula Penguinettes in their last outing, the undefeated Eden side will again meet the Pambula contingent following the preliminary finals over the weekend. 

The Eden Killer Whales won the competition’s maiden women’s title 20 years ago and are looking to finish off a flawless season to secure this year’s crown as well. 

Club officials said they were also buoyed by the under 14s side qualifying for the grand final with the junior Killer Whales to face Merimbula White. 

Club president Adam Donaldson said it was fantastic to have the two sides going in to the ultimate round after they both boasted exceptional seasons. 

The women’s side has not dropped their guard at all this season and has drawn high praise from opposing teams this year. 

They’ve let slip just four goals, where Pambula have seen 13 hit the back of the net during the regular season. 

Tanya Waites has proved to be indomitable in front of goals, and will look to her strong back line of Kim Peters, Jasmine Lefel and Emma Webster to help close the door on Pambula’s chances. 

While at the opposite end of the field Eden have handily booted 67 goals, with star strikers Amber Seckold and Kamilla Grubesic dangerous with the ball. 

They are well-served by long range crosses from the Mitchell sisters, while Debbie Heron and young gun rep star Talia Westley work play forward out of the middle.

Mr Donaldson said women’s coach Mark Heron had been there for the club’s debut ladies win, and been a big proponent of the ladies competition since. 

The Penguinettes meanwhile, will look to their star flankers in Astyn Friend and Annalisse Reed, who were critical in earning the Pambula side a second chance to face Eden. 

The under 14s can boast similarly strong results this year, dropping just two games in the home-away season. 

Mr Donaldson said the under 14s draw was the most hotly contested in the association – playing across two pools with 11 teams contesting. 

So there is no surprise the club is thrilled to see the young Killer Whales earning a chance to top the lot after finishing a close second in their pool. 

Merimbula White were a surprise entrant out of their pool after finishing fourth on the back of a mixed season of results. 

Club officials said they were confident the Killer Whales could secure the result in both grades. 

The club is encouraging everyone to head along and cheer on both teams in their grand final showdowns on Sunday. 

Matches will be played at Merimbula’s Berrambool Oval with the 14s to run at 11.15, while ladies goes ahead at 1pm.
