Attention all bookworms: There’ll be books galore at bargain prices this Sunday, August 27 at the friendly Wyndham Village Market from 8.30 to 1pm. Fill you bags with the best that Wyndham can offer, catch up with friends over a cuppa and a hot roast roll from the Pony Club and be entertained by Steve Wilson and the guys who will be busking to raise funds for the Leukemia Foundation. The market is followed by the sounds of Jingera Rock Music at the picturesque Sportsground with the stunning backdrop of Jingera Rock. This is a place where Community and visitors alike can gather and catch up while soaking up the sounds of our talented local musicians. So come one come all to this open mic afternoon where all musicians, poets, comedians and story tellers are encouraged to entertain the crowd.
Fruit Fly fighters
Spring is almost upon us and one of the gardener's most annoying pests will be here again. Since April, fruit fly baiting has continued, but the fly season is with us again. Queensland Fruit Fly has been active in our area for some time and attempts to reduce it seem to be working. Our local group are preparing for weekly bait distribution. Anyone who has paid their $12 should collect their cards each Tuesday from the Eden Community Access Centre starting August 29. If you are not involved, a fee of $12 will enable you to join and help control this pest.
Eden View Club
Eden VIEW will hold its next meeting at the Fishermans Club on Monday, August 28 at 11.30am for a noon start in the Snug Cove Dining. Executive committee to meet prior to meeting at 10.30am. Point of VIEW for August “Is fashion Important?” and anyone interested in a friendly group of women who support ‘The Smith Family’ are always welcome. Call Sec 0412242851.
Imlay House Auxiliary
The auxiliary would like to thank all those who came along to our Pambula Cream Tea last Wednesday, August 16. It was a resounding success with all proceeds going to the Imlay House Nursing Home. Fun was had by everybody, with much laughter at Jackie's "silly game", trivia and bingo, plus a lovely afternoon tea. The raffle was won by Jane Adams, much to her delight. Thanks to those who worked hard to make the afternoon a success. Next up is the Spring Fever lunch.
Geneology news
We look forward to seeing not only Bega Valley Genealogy Society members but also anyone interested in Family History at our AGM, which will be held at the Old Court House in Pambula on Sunday, August 27, at 2pm. Our Guest Speaker will be Robert Whiter from Eden. His very interesting talk will be on the Far South Coast Sleeper Cutters, which also includes the boats which carried the sleepers to far away places, sometimes very far away places. Come for tea, and a look around the Old Court House.
District Garden Club
The Merimbula and District Garden Club will hold its next meeting at 10.15am on Saturday, August 26 at the RSL. Club in Merimbula. This meeting will be our AGM. Members please consider whether you are able to support the club by nominating yourself or your friends. Visitors and new members welcome. We will have our usual plant sale, have some morning tea and our raffle.
Rotary Local Heroes
This Friday on Sapphire FM 97.5 the day begins at 8.30 with Gavin and Col and their special guest Michelle Arrowsmith, Executive Director Clinical Operations for the Local Health District. Michelle will share news about: the current flu epidemic, the new paediatric service at SERH, the new local out patient service, administrative job opportunities and how the capital works are going at Pambula. Then Colin continues the morning with Sarah Lam of Rotaract at 9am, Dorothea Bonney of U3A at 10 and at 11am, Sharyn Bruce of Feral Tale Books.
Trash and Treasure
Can Assist is holding their annual Trash and Treasure sale at the Bega Show Ground on September 16. If you would like to help out with a donation of saleable goods please contact Peter on 0439 321 945 and arrange collection of donations or take goods to the Show Ground on Friday, September 15. All money raised goes to assist Cancer Patients in the Bega Valley.
Art on Imlay
Art on Imlay are holding art and craft demonstrations on the last Saturday of every month, on Saturday, August 26, learn how to paint a contemporary acrylic painting and do clay modelling, come along and see how it is done from 10am till 12.30pm.

OPEN GARDENS
We are looking for anyone who would like to have their garden 'open to the public' on October 28 and 29 for our annual Open Garden event. This event, held on the weekend prior to the Whale Festival, has proved to be extremely popular with gardening enthusiasts. Funds raised go back into the community.
