Community relations manager Southern, Karen Roscoe, said the project would involve the upgrade of network equipment in close proximity to the ocean.
“Local crews will replace 12 power poles, 80 pole cross-arms and three kilometres of low voltage powerlines, upgrade two substations and existing electrical equipment at various locations around Eden,” Karen said.
“To minimise the impact on customers we’ll be using “live line” techniques, where possible, and bring in more than 50 crew members from five regional depots to complete the work in the shortest possible timeframe.
“Two planned power outages will be necessary in late August to provide crews with safe access to the electricity network.”
Essential Energy has notified affected residents and businesses in advance to allow time to make alternative arrangements. Each affected customer will only experience a single power outage as part of this project.
The first power outage is scheduled between 9am and 3pm on Tuesday, August 22, conditions permitting. The subsequent outage will occur the following day.

Essential Energy advises that changes to local traffic arrangements will be necessary throughout the duration of the project and will be undertaken by an accredited specialist to minimise inconvenience to motorists and ensure the safety of employees, contractors and the community.
Road users are advised that these changes may include reduced speed limits and minor traffic delays.
“We thank the Eden community for its patience and understanding while we work to strengthen the local electricity network,” Karen said.
