Bombala hooker Paul Perkins scored a treble of tries in the Blue Heelers' 36-8 win over Eden Tigers at Bombala on Saturday, July 15.
A club official said, while the Blue Heelers deserved their win, the margin was no indication of the contest as every Tigers player gave his all in effort and commitment.
Eden had early territorial advantage, but could not post any points.
Both teams turned over possession before Bombala gained field position followed by a penalty and attacked the Tigers' goal-line before halfback Tyler Jones nipped through to open the scoring in the 16th minute.
Centre Wame Belolevo added the extras for a 6-0 lead.
When Zac Slater latched onto a crossfield bomb for a try, converted by Belolevo, the Blue Heelers led 12-0.
A try out wide by Perkins nearing half-time made it 16-0 at the interval.
Early in the second term, centre Joe Sagoe crossed in the left corner for Eden then shortly afterward fullback Toby Whitehead scored in the opposite corner to make it 16-8.
Bombala responded, stretching its lead to 22-8 with Perkins' second try, again converted by Belolevo.
The Tigers were reduced to 12 men for 10 minutes when hooker Matt Whitehead was sin binned and Bombala took advantage with a try to captain-coach and centre Joe Bobbin.
Eden was denied a try when Toby Whitehead put Greg Nicholson over between the posts only to be recalled for a Tigers forward pass earlier in the movement.
Almost immediately and against the run of play, Jones scored again for Bombala.
On full-time, Perkins notched his third try and Jones added the extras for a 36-8 final score.
Eden's best and fairest points went to Robert Aratangi with three, Sagoe two, Joel Grewar one, while Aratangi also received players' player.
Bombala also won the league-tag, downing Eden 26-4.
The High Heelers led 22-0 at half-time through tries to Patrice Clear, Natasha Stewart and back-to-back tries to Kiarna Rowell who converted the first three tries.
Brilliant athlete Angela Blackburn scored a superb try from near half-way for Eden to make it 22-4.
A try from dummy-half by Anita Perkins for the Blue Heelers made the final score 26-4.
Eden's best and fairest points were three to Kiarna Mitchell, two to Chelsie Cassie, one to Katrina Lackey and players' player was Stacey Duivesteyn.
Eden's last games of the regular season will be at the ‘Dog Pound’ against the Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs this Sunday.
A win could see the Tigers still in with a shot at the semi-finals.
Matches will go ahead at the Pambula Sporting Complex from 10.30am with league-tag to open proceedings.
