Eden Service and Social Club Inc vice president Jeff Swane said it was decided at a meeting on Monday night that the club would endeavour to hold the fireworks and an application to use Eden Sports Ground had been lodged with council.
Mr Swane said it was now up to the community to raise the money to fund it – and while a target has not been set, last year’s event cost about $5500 of which council had contributed $5000.
Contingency plans for the return of donations should the fireworks not go ahead were being made, he said.
A donation box set up last week at Eden Newsagency has already attracted a “couple of hundred dollars”, with another pledge of $1000, newsagent Lynn Slater said.
Donations can also be deposited into ESSCI’s fireworks account at IMB.
Council has decided to focus its resources on the Sapphire Coast New Year’s Eve Spectacular in Merimbula.
