The rescue of two young boys out of patrol hours has earned Pambula Surf Life Saving Club lifesaver, Madeline Harvey, the club’s top award.

Madeline was awarded the title and presented the prestigious club trophy during the club’s recent annual awards presentation.
Walking down to Pambula’s Main Beach, Madeline noticed the two boys trapped in a strong rip and utilised her lifesaving skills to commandeer a surfboard, paddle out and bring both boys to safety.
Madeline has been a member of Pambula SLSC from Nippers through junior lifesaving and now senior lifesaving and in 2017, added Lifeguarding to her already impressive lifesaving resume.
In presenting her with the Lifesaver of the Year award, Bega Valley Shire Mayor, Kristy McBain said the boys had been rescued and brought back to the beach, much to the delight of their anxious mother who had seen the whole thing unfold, while all along Madeline showed great skill and a cool head during the incident.
In other key award stakes, stalwart Andrew Holt was announced the Senior Club Person and Connor Leayr as the Junior Club Person.
Simone Shaw received the BP Quiet Achiever award, Hugo White the Club Spirit Award and Pambula CWA for a club member to the community was awarded to John Liston.
The Ecclefeccan Award for contributions to the club on a humorous level was jointly won by Andrew Love and Don Hay.
On the competition front, Beth Knox was named Senior Competitor, Jesse Campbell-Jones Junior Competitor and the Most Consistent Competitor, Hannah Walker. The Coaches Award was received by Liam O’Neill while Jack Greer took out the coveted Peter Robinson Shield for most improved in the water.
The Cecil Stone Patrol Captains Award was won by Patrol 3 Vice-Captain, Chris Knox who took responsibility of the Patrol Captain’s job on many occasions throughout the season.
The final, but by no means least, accolade was Patrol of the Year and this was deservedly presented to Chris Brigg’s Patrol 4 by Club Captain, Anne Smith.
Club President Stephen Hodgson wrapped up the evening thanking all who attended to celebrate what has been a successful season for the State’s southernmost club.
Members are excited for the new season.
