Heron will excavate more than 170,000 cubic metres of sand and rock from the sea bed, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for 30 weeks.
Managing director Greg Kroef said the dredging equipment, which will also include two barges and two tugs, is currently in Melbourne. It is expected to arrive in Eden around mid-August.
The New Zealand-based company has operated in Australia since 2010 and has completed major dredging works at Newcastle, Kurnell, Geelong and the Port of Melbourne. It will set up an office in Eden for its workers, boosting the local economy.
