A spokesperson for NSW Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance said the minister was not involved in discussions with developers about funding a wave attenuator.
The developer behind the proposed Eden Marina and Eden Resort Hotel said the project would proceed once government funding for a wave attenuator was secured.
“The government is funding one wave attenuator at Eden, which is the Snug Cove attenuator, to be funded by the $10million Eden Safe Harbour Project,” the spokesperson said.
“Transport for NSW is not providing financial assistance towards any aspect of the Cattle Bay development, including the wave attenuator.
“Transport for NSW’s priority is to develop a safe harbour in Snug Cove by constructing a wave attenuator.”
In response to the minster’s comments, project spokesman Bob Carter said the developer had no specific comment to make.
“The Cattle Bay development is a project naturally suited to this specific location and desperately needed on the Sapphire Coast of NSW,” Mr Carter said.
“The developer is committed to the project and continues to move forward.”
An economics benefit report was prepared for and delivered to the NSW Government as part of the developer’s pitch for a taxpayer-funded wave attenuator at Cattle Bay.
The development comprises a 154-berth marina, 250-room 4.5 star resort hotel, conference centre, restaurant and residential development.
The report states the capital works at Cattle Bay are almost triple the value of the cruise ship wharf extension.
- The response from Transport for NSW was received after Thursday’s Magnet went to print, in which the Cattle Bay developer said its economics report had been handed to Minister for Transport and Infrastructure and Bega MP Andrew Constance as well as government officials from the Department of Industry-Lands.
