The night was organised to help bring awareness to “home-based businesses” including party planners in our area, and to assist with funding a photo booth as part of the entertainment activities to be held at the Eden Whale Festival on Saturday, November 4, 2017.
The 65 plus people that attended were treated to 24 different businesses who were there to showcase their goods and what they have to offer with everything from candles, jewellery, make-up, cooking, clothing, kayaking to photography and more.
All the featured businesses contributed to an amazing treasure hunt prize, with some of the tricky questions stumping a lot of people. The eventual winner of the treasure hunt prize was Laura Campbell with Regina Swane taking second prize.
Lucky door prizes were donated by the Fishermen’s club and Julie Fourter. The early bird lucky door prize went to Mel Warren and other lucky door prizes were won by Nancy Weatherman and Maddy McKean.
The raffle on the night was made up with prizes donated by Benay Vardy from Tupperware, Lyn Ashton from Thermomix, Jody White from Sea Beadz and the Eden Fishermen’s Club. The winning raffle tickets were held by Naomi Turnbull, Donna Gray, Loretta (from Merimbula) and Tara Ingram. With such a great response and feedback we could see this become an annual event.
On behalf of the Eden Whale Festival Committee, we would like to extend a huge thank you to the business owners who came along to showcase themselves, the Eden Fishermen’s and Recreation club for their donations, and mostly everyone who came along to support small home business and make this night a success.
Keep an eye out for our next fund-raiser.
Wyndham Village Market
First time stallholders will be welcomed free of charge this Sunday, June 25, at the friendly Wyndham Village Market.
Gather with friends and family in the warmth of the supper room filled with the nostalgic smell of hot scones as they emerge freshly baked from the oven to your plate.
Or perhaps a bacon and egg roll, sausage or burger from the outdoor barbeque is more to your liking, all to benefit the local Rural Fire Brigade.
Grab a great coffee and fill your bags with all your favourite organic, locally grown and produced goods, homebaking, items handmade with love and more.
Held in and surrounding the historic Wyndham Hall, this all weather market operates from 8.30am to 1pm and is followed by the sounds of Jingera Rock Music at the Sportsground.
Come one, come all to this open mic afternoon where all musicians, poets, comedians and storytellers are encouraged to entertain the appreciative crowd in a relaxed and picturesque community gathering place.
Market stalls cost just $15 for casual sites, $13 for regulars who book three months in advance and $10 for the car boot sale. Buskers are most welcome!
Book your stall now by calling Yvonne on 6494 2443.
Writers celebrate
The Writers of the Far South Coast successfully held their AGM on Saturday staving off fears the group may fold. The new committee is as follows: President: Amanda Dalziel, Vice President: Peter Armstrong, Secretary: Mary-Ellen Turbet, Treasurer: Denise Burdett, Ordinary Members: Angelika Erpic and Liz Bellette-Stubbs, Public Officer: Loretta Ashby.
Pet of the week
Ruby the six-month-old female Great Dane cross is a sweet-natured, happy and very affectionate young lady. She loves to spend time with her AWL carer and is learning lots of new stuff like sitting on command, playing with toys, walking calmly with a halti and lead, travelling in the car, knowing when to leave her foster sisters alone and having designated quiet times.
Ruby is a gentle girl and a pleasure to have around, but she is still a pup (sometimes hard to remember due to her size) and needs lots of one-on-one playing and learning time, but also consistency in rules, a stern voice at times and behavioural boundaries set early.
Adoption inquiries for Ruby or one of the other lovely dogs and cats needing homes through Animal Welfare League - Far South Coast NSW can be made by calling 0400 372 609. Many can be viewed at www.facebook.com/AnimalWelfareLeagueFarSouthCoastBranch.
The Sapphire Coast Branch of RSPCA has several cats and kittens available and are contactable on 0419 267 799 or through its Facebook page.
All companion animals come de-sexed, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and vet checked before adoption so the hard work is taken care of.
GARAGE SALE: Animal Welfare League NSW Far South Coast branch will be holding its garage sale at Tathra Hall on July 1 from 9am until 1pm. If you have any clean saleable goods to donate you can drop them off at the hall on Friday, June 30, from 2-4pm or call 0400 372 609.
Pambula Hospital Auxiliary
On July 1 changes are occurring within the local Ambulance Service, which will affect services to Pambula and Merimbula residents.
These changes have been instituted at very short notice, but we are hoping it will be possible for someone to address our next meeting on June 28 to explain to members how this will impact health care in this area.
The Auxiliary is in serious need of more younger members to carry on the work of supporting Pambula Community Health Centre and the services at Pambula Hospital.
Community Health provides a wide range of services, from physio, occupational and speech therapies to dieticians, podiatrists, dental and mental health, breast care nurses, audiologists, aged care assessment, rehabilitation, family services and home nursing service.
The hospital continues to deliver patient rehabilitation, palliative care and aged/dementia services and the ATC (Assessment and Treatment Centre); and with the expenditure of $1.6 million, more services are envisaged at the completion of the renovations which are currently under way.
June 28 is the only remaining meeting before the AGM in July, and all who value the above services should attend that meeting to show your support.
During the renovations at the Hospital the Auxiliary is using the meeting room within the Mental Health Department.
Meetings start at 10am on the fourth Wednesday of each month.
Parkinson Support
The June meeting of the Bega Valley Parkinson Support group was well attended and those present were treated to a CD on the work being done with stem cells.
The research using stem cells gave the meeting some reasons to anticipate that we could find a cure in the future and also help in the management of Parkinson Disease.
For the July meeting a presentation by a speech therapist has been arranged. Speech is a common problem with Parkinson sufferers. The next meeting will be held on July 3 at 10.30 at Bega Golf Club.
